The Laboratories of Food Packaging Materials Division (FPM) offer the Companies services of testing, applied research, validation, studies of compliance with technical norms and legal provisions.
The main activity sectors are within three specific interactive areas:
FOOD areal, whose competences are the compositive, nutritional microbiologic and sensorial analyses of food, the definition of qualitative parameters, the detection of Genetically Modified Organisms, of pollytants, additives, allergenes.
PACKAGING area, operating in the Outstanding Centre for Shelf Life studies, originated from the cooperation between DiSTAM (University of Milan) and CSI, which represents the most complete structure for the advanced investigations of shelf life.The Outstanding Centre possesses competences in food science, packaging technologies, chemical analyses, sensorial tests, microbiological investigations and the most advanced analytical equipments are placed at disposal of the researchers.
MATERIALS area, where the long-term experience of CSI is focused on validations, characterizations, certifications, compositive and performance investigations of packagings for foods, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics.
Food Packaging Materials Division cooperates with public and private institutes and develops testing methods within Standardization Bodies. Some phases of this activity have now become projects of UNI Norms for the primary packaging sector.
Besides testing, it is noteworthy the activity of research to offer the Companies assistance and support to realize new projects in the field of food safety verification and to develop innovative packaging solutions.
